A self-initiated 3D heritage-gallery experiment: rendered studies of San Juan Bautista's mission, plaza and working blacksmith shop, built from archival imagery.
Self-initiated studio project.
This is what we build for ourselves. San Juan Bautista is a small California mission town dense with history, the mission, El Teatro Campesino, the old plaza hotel, a working blacksmith shop, and no good way to walk it. INT-001 started as a 3D gallery / heritage-tour experiment and converged on the version that actually serves the town: a self-guided historic walking trail you can open on your phone, no install, no account.
The app is the San Juan Bautista Historic Walking Trail: 49 stops, map and stories. A home view orients you on the trail, a live map handles navigation, each stop gets a detail card with its story, and an explore/identify mode asks 'What do you see?'. Progress is gamified lightly, a passport with stops and XP, and a Trail Completion Certificate that renders as a bordered, era-themed card with stats and a print stylesheet when you discover the final stop. Imagery mixes our own photography with Library of Congress HABS archive photographs and compressed Wikimedia sources. An About sheet carries the mission, data sources, the Plants and Chairs credit, and a Mutsun land acknowledgement.
It shipped. Deployed to production at sjb-explorer.vercel.app with correct cache headers, security headers, an OG share card, and offline-friendly service-worker behavior. An outreach package, pitch templates for state parks, city, county, tribal review, and local press, is drafted and gated behind tribal review with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band before anything is sent.
